MIRI: Oceancare Technical Training Centre (OCTTC) and Wind Asia Training Pte Ltd. (WATPL) are partnering in the establishment of a new training facility here.

A joint-venture (JV) signing ceremony took place yesterday to mark the facilitation of this project.

In a press statement released in connection with the event, the centre is expected to be operational by this year.
“It is set to meet the rising demands for skilled professionals in the oil and gas (O&G) and renewable energy industries, offering state-of-the-art training and certification programmes.
“The facility will provide accredited courses from OPITO (Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation) and GWO (Global Wind Organisation), ensuring that all training adheres to the highest global standards in safety, technical proficiency, and professional development.
“Through this collaboration, the trainees will gain the expertise needed to thrive in the evolving fields of offshore petroleum and wind energy,” said the statement.

Mayor Adam Yii, who witnessed the signing ceremony, highlighted the significance of this JV, which hailed as representing ‘a key milestone in the collective journey towards a more vibrant, progressive and sustainable Miri City’.
“As we continue to uphold our vision of a green, smart, and the most liveable international resort city, Miri is steadily becoming a city where innovation, sustainability, and community engagement are at the forefront of everything we do.
“This new training centre is a testament to our commitment to the future, an investment in the people of Miri, one that will empower individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in an ever-evolving world,” said the Pujut assemblyman in his speech.
“Our mission has always been clear – to dedicate our energy and resources towards delivering high-quality living to the people through efficient and effective governance.
“This training centre aligns perfectly with that mission,” he added.

In his remarks, OCTTC director Datuk Nelson Balang Rining highlighted the advanced infrastructure of the upcoming training centre, designed to equip individuals with essential skills to excel in marine and technical fields.
“The centre will offer specialised training programmes that ensure professionals are well-prepared to meet both the challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow.
“I am also optimistic that the centre would attract not only Sarawakians, but also students from the Asean region, including Indonesia.”

Designed to cater to professionals at all levels, including technical and vocational education and training (TVET) graduates, as well as blue-collar and white-collar workers, the training centre is set to provide a comprehensive range of programmes aimed at career advancement and skills enhancement for both technical and managerial roles.
